A multi-national team of 100 highly qualified lead-authors, co-authors and researchers is working on the report. The lead editor is Mr. Hussein Abaza, senior economist and former head of the Economics and Trade Branch of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Dr. Mostafa Kamal Tolba, former Executive Director of UNEP, and Dr. Mohamed El-Ashry, former CEO of Global Environment Facility (GEF), are among the lead advisers.

Prior to the report publication, high level consultation meetings are being organized for each of the 8 sectors in order to give the report authors the opportunity to deliberate their findings before a group of experts. Three such meetings have been held so far, in cooperation with AFED associate institutions, attended by ministers and high officials, academics, corporate leaders, and civil society. The tour started in Cairo, hosted by the Center for Environment and Development for the Arab Countries and Europe (CEDARE), before moving to the American University of Beirut (AUB) and Petra University in Amman.
