The report is being prepared by a group of experts from across the region, and edited by Dr. Mohamed El-Ashry, former chief of Global Environment Facility (GEF). Chief scientific adviser is Dr. Mostafa Kamal Tolba, President of AFED Board of Trustees and former Executive Director of UNEP.
The first chapter in the report sets the context by explaining why benefits have been slow to come by and what challenges need to be addressed to attain ater sustainability in the region.
The rest of the report is dedicated to describing reforms in water policies, management, laws, practices, and institutions.
Each chapter tackles a reform topic, highlighting why reforms are needed, what they will look like, and what their intended outcomes should ideally be. It addresses integrated water resource management, climate change adaptation, water demand management, water governance, and water reuse, among other topics. |
