General Motors has created an Earth Month calendar between April 22 and June 5 –stretching from Earth Day to the United Nations’ World Environment Day – highlighting 45 days of GM people, products and places positively impacting the environment. The calendar can be viewed at http://media.gm.com/media/us/en/calendar.html
“GM in the Middle East is continually trying to reduce its carbon footprint. In addition to introducing a lineup of fuel efficient vehicles including the award-winning Chevrolet Malibu and Cruze, we are always making sure our operations impact the environment as little as possible,” said Samer El Khalil, Regional Communications and Public Relations Manager, GM Middle East.
May 9th is marked by GM’s collaboration with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) to collect and recycle GM’s paper, plastic and cans every month. This collaboration has resulted in the collection of 3,000 kg of paper, 406 kg of plastic and 54 kg of cans since February 2009.
May 29th is marked by the GM Parts Distribution Centre’s recycling of packaging materials for outbound shipments. The centre currently receives plastic, cardboard boxes, wood and paper from more than 400 sources all over the world. Materials that can’t be reused are given to Imdaad, the Dubai World facilities management company. On an average day, MEDC ships 10 trailers worth of goods, and over 60 percent of the materials used in the packaging are re-used.
