• AFED Annual Conference Returns to Beirut
AFED eighth annual conference will be held at the Phoenicia Intercontinental Hotel in Beirut on 16-17 November 2015. The 2015 edition of AFED's flagship report on State of Arab Environment, this year on interrelation between Sustainable Consumption, Environment and Resource Management, will be released at the event. Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (AED) will be the main sponsor in the capacity of "Official Partner". Other supporting organizations include Islamic Development Bank, Kuwait Fund, UN-ESCWA and UNEP.
• AFED at the Arab Governance Energy Forum, USEK-Kaslik, 23 April
AFED was co-sponsor of the Arab Governance Energy Forum, which was organized by the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik (USEK). Professor Farid Chaaban, AFED associate and chair of the ECE department at the American University of Beirut (AUB), represented AFED and delivered a statement on Energy sustainability and climate change.
• AFED at Sustainable Food Systems Conference, Bari, 23-24 April 2015
AFED Secretary General participated in the International Workshop on "Mediterranean Sustainable Food Systems", organized by CIHEAM (Mediterranean Agronomic Center) with technical collaboration of FAO. The conference reviewed the methodological approaches used for revitalizing the Mediterranean diet as a model of sustainable diet. Preparations towards EXPO Milan 2015, on food theme, were also debated. CIHEAM is major contributor to AFED report, and will co-organize a session on Sustainable Mediterranean Diet at AFED 2015 annual conference. http://goo.gl/4dOYnh
• Food Security Report at the American University of Beirut, Beirut, 27 April
In collaboration with the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) and the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences (FAFS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), AFED presented its 7th annual report on Food Security during a panel discussion. H.E. Dr. Tarek Mitri, Director of IFI, spoke about "Food Security as Policy Challenge", while Dr. Nahla Hwalla, Dean of FAFS, presented an "Overview of FAFS Food Security Program". Dr. Abdulkarim Sadik, lead author of AFED report and Senior Economic Adviser at Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, presented main findings and recommendations of the report. Dr. Nadim Farajallah - research director of the Climate Change and Environment Program at IFI, and Dr. Rami Zurayk, Chair of the Department of Landscape Design and Ecosystem Management - FAFS, participated in discussions. http://goo.gl/vvLKhE

• AFED Public Opinion Survey
As deadline to receive forms of the AFED survey on Consumption Patterns approaches, good response has been recorded from across the region. The public opinion survey, covering 22 Arab countries, aims to collect data on consumption habits, focusing on water, energy and food. 14 media organizations across the region joined in promoting the survey.
